Liv.e - Bout These Pipedreams
"I know, I know you thought this song was over but that's incorrect because energy carries on"
Liv.e is an undeservedly unknown artist that dabbles mostly in this psychedelic, earth-girl, clutching-your-crystals-for-self-confidence-type vibe that you'll hear when you tune in to any of her songs. This one in particular - a beautiful combination of 3 songs from the same album - takes you on a trip that I can only compare to what I've heard ayahuasca is like. Getting everything out of your system and then being reborn again as something newer, better. It's a confidence-boosting, blessed hit that reminds you to always carry on and - as the title says - learn from your mistakes.
The beginning, aggressive, repetitive piano and eerie "duahhh la da da da" that continues near the end of the first part reflects on the idea of the snake eating its own tail - a harmful cycle that she's continuing in her mania and confusion, ("this is not me, this is not me"), but an astute recognition of that in her quick-paced word-vent-vomit.
When the second part comes in, it's soothing. Her playfully waving a gun with a little flower attached as she lounges, pridefully declaring that she's learning, she's growing - which contrasts with her almost drunken sounding complaints ("i'm just try-ing!", "oh so y'all not gon' help me?"), making for a cutesy, relatable, child-like interjection.
The final part feels like maturity, coming back to your senses. It has an almost grounding beat as she sings with certainty, but only for the final minute of the 4 minute song. This could be an implication of said maturity being short lived, and that she's bound to start the cycle again and need to re-learn her lessons. Definitely something many of you have felt before. How easy it is to fall back into your old ways, after promising you'd change.
Although sitting comfortably at almost 135k views on YouTube, her Spotify is no humble affair, with her top song sitting at over 7 million plays. But I don't just measure unknowness (not a word, but you get it) just in views, I measure it in 3 questions.
1. Has anyone ever mentioned the artist/any of their songs/anyone similar to me?
2. If I went to my student union, a cafe, or any clothing shop, would I be likely to hear their songs?
3. If I were to mention them to a friend, would they recognise them or not?
And to me, Liv.e passes all those checks, perfectly.
Alright, alright enough talking from me. Here's a couple more songs below that are from Liv.e or remind me of her
(With a little surprise at the end if you choose to read till then)
Today, tell me what earth-girl vibes songs you like to listen to. How did you find them? Let me knowwww!!!
Enjoy these hits,
